Deadline approaches for Tempe businesses to hire interns at no cost

A Tempe program will pay interns hired by local businesses this summer.

Career Ready Tempe is a collaboration between the city and the Tempe Chamber Foundation, connecting young people to “college and career readiness support” by partering with businesses, according to a release.

The deadline for businesses to apply is Wednesday, March 15, and internships will take place during June and July.

Students are compensated by the Career Ready Tempe program, at no cost to participating businesses, the release stated, adding Career Ready Tempe staff will monitor and coordinate with interns/businesses throughout.

The city cited these program benefits:

• Opportunity to fill the opportunity and skills gap while helping low-income youth break cycles of poverty.

• Opportunity to participate in the Career Ready Tempe interview/selection process.

• Business exposure/visibility within the city.

• Support in selecting and preparing students for an internship opportunity.

Tempe sophomores and juniors are eligible for the program.

Student applications are due by Saturday, April 1.
