Drug take back on April 22

Posted

The Surprise Police Department is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to host a National Prescription Drug Take Back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at Surprise City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza.

The collection site will be in the unloading area near the intersection of Statler Boulevard and Civic Center Plaza. This free event will help community members wanting to dispose of old or unneeded medications safely and from the convenience of their vehicle.

Participants can drive up to the collection area, and officers will be available to unload the unwanted medications. Drug Take Back Day is a national effort by the DEA to provide a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of expired, unused prescription drugs.

According to a national survey on drug use and health, most misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from a medicine cabinet at home. In addition, unused or expired medications can hurt people, pets and the environment if they are disposed of improperly, stolen or misused.
