A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on several charges after leading Mesa police on a chase that ended Saturday morning in Phoenix.

At about 11 p.m. Friday, April 7, several vehicles were doing doughnuts near Country Club Drive and Broadway Road, police said.

Officers arrived, and several vehicles fled. An officer attempted to stop a 2010 red Corvette, but the driver refused to comply and, after several attempts to pull the car over, it sideswiped the patrol vehicle and sped away.

The Mesa Police Department Air Unit followed the car as patrol units backed away to stay out of sight, according to police.

The helicopter followed the car onto a freeway and into Phoenix when that department’s helicopter began tracking the Corvette.

Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers attempted to put down spike strips.

Soon after, Mesa police said, the vehicle lost two of its tires, and the driver ran from the car into a house near 40^th Avenue and Grant in Phoenix.

Officers arrived and took the 17-year-old  into custody.

Police said the house belonged to a friend of the suspect, and no one there was involved.

A handgun was found in the vehicle.

“With his parent present, the suspect admitted to driving the vehicle and knowing the weapon was in the car,” police said.

He was booked on unlawful flight from law enforcement, possession of a firearm by a minor, leaving the scene of an accident – damage, endangerment and driving at excessive speeds.
