Tempe is treating crime victims served by the city’s Family Advocacy Center to a self-care day event as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and residents can support them with donations.
“We’re here to serve victims, survivors and their families from the point of crisis to healing. Self-care is an important part of that journey, and we hope this will be a very special day for our guests,” Tim Burch, the city’s Community Health and Human Services director, said.
Donations will be accepted at the Tempe Public Library, 3500 S. Rural Road, through Oct. 23. For hours of operation, visit tempe.gov/library. For questions, contact Anastasia_stinchfield@tempe.gov
Needed donations include:
- Lotions, face masks, lip balms, cosmetics and other personal care items.
- Non-perishable food items, especially holiday items such as canned pumpkin or cranberries.
- Gently used clothing and shoes.
- Halloween costumes and store-bought candy for kids.
The self-care day event itself is limited to those served by the Family Advocacy Center.
Services and activities offered at the event are being made through donations. Children can take part in arts and crafts, and there will be a complimentary lunch. Goodie bags filled with donated self-care items will round out the event, according to the city.
Tempe opened its Family Advocacy Center earlier this year to serve all victims of crime in Tempe at one centralized, confidential location.
The center, opened in partnership with Arizona State University, provides comprehensive services through CARE 7 and ASU victim advocates as well as Tempe and ASU police as needed.
Students, residents and visitors of all ages have access to resources that address both immediate and long-term needs, acccording to a release.
Anyone who needs help can get started by calling the city’s CARE & HOPE Line at 480-350-8004.
