Chandler chef among competitors in benefit event

Burger battle is for cancer patient

Six Valley chefs will compete in a charity cooking competition event. A Chandler chef is among them.

Mark Coakley of BKD’s Backyard Joint will compete in the Burger Battle Throwdown, set for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Handlebar Diner in southeast Mesa to raise money for a local event planner’s fight against cancer.

Lauren Wyckoff, owner of Lauren Allen Culinary Events, has been diagnosed with stage-4 lymphoma, according to the blog Mouth by Southwest.

Throwdown attendees will get a sample of each chef’s burger, along with a beer pairing, before voting on the event’s winner.

Tickets for the event are $50.  Call Handlebar Diner, located at  5149 Inspirian Parkway in Mesa, by calling 623-239-2972. 

There also will be DJ music and raffles.
