Boy hospitalized after being found face down in West Valley pool

A 9-year-old boy was taken to a hospital Sunday afternoon after being found face down and unconscious in a pool at a home in the Sundance Park community.

Buckeye Fire and Medical Rescue personnel responded the the family gathering about 4 p.m. Aug. 24, and the boy was taken to Phoenix Children’s hospital – Avondale campus.

“He was breathing but in critical condition at the time of transport and required advanced medical care,” fire officials said, adding it is believed about a minute had passed when he was last seen in the water.

A 9-year-old boy was taken to a hospital Sunday afternoon after being found face down and unconscious in a pool at a home in the Sundance Park community.

Buckeye Fire and Medical Rescue personnel responded the the family gathering about 4 p.m. Aug. 24, and the boy was taken to Phoenix Children’s hospital – Avondale campus.

Buckeye authorities provided these water safety reminders:

  • Always designate a “water watcher” when children are swimming.
  • Keep pool gates closed and locked when not in use.
  • Ensure children know how to swim and wear life jackets if needed.
  • Never rely on flotation devices as a substitute for supervision.
  • If a child goes missing, check the water first.
