Maricopa County Recorder’s Office final results officially show Surprise voters approved general obligation bond funding for projects related to public safety and transportation.

Question 1, which dealt with transportation, passed with 57.3% voting yes. The $66 million transportation bond will fund road improvements to reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic safety, including segments of Waddell, Happy Valley and Cactus roads and 163rd Avenue.

Question 2, which focused on public safety, was approved by 59.3% of Surprise voters. The $34 million public safety bond will fund the expansion of public safety facilities, including a fire station, a police substation and the acquisition of land for additional public safety facilities.

“The passing of these bond questions will allow us to accomplish some very critical projects that will help keep our city safe and traffic flowing,” Mayor Skip Hall said. “I am very thankful to all of the residents who exercised their right to vote in this election.”

The Surprise City Council will meet to canvass the votes at its Nov. 21 meeting.

The bond project descriptions are available at surpriseaz.gov/bond. The website will be updated with the status of the projects once they are underway. It will also include information as to when bond issuances are carried out.
