Book lovers in Peoria were sad to see the Barnes & Noble near Arrowhead Mall close a couple months ago.
But lovers of literature and all things found under a book store roof need not fret — that Barnes & Noble is relocating to the Arrowhead Palms Shopping Centre, 7401 W. Bell Road, between buybuy BABY and Cost Plus World Market in the former Lifeway Christian Store.
Andy Garbutt, principal at real estate and group development, Barnes & Noble, said he is very excited to open the new store in Peoria.
It will be more compact than the previous store, at about 10,000 square feet, he said.
“We expect to have a comparable range of books to the old store,” Mr. Garbutt said. “The main difference is that we will not have an in-store café. We decided on this given the proximity of other cafes and wishing to keep a full range toys, games, puzzles and stationery alongside our books.”
An official opening date has not yet set, but store officials are projecting an opening in mid-to-late summer.
After nearly 25 years at the former location, Mr. Garbutt said the landlord decided to redevelop the unit for a new tenant.
“We considered several possibilities for the relocation of our bookstore and chose Arrowhead Palms Shopping Centre,” he said.
