Avondale swears in council members, names new vice mayor
Posted
Three Avondale council members were sworn in during the Jan. 9 meeting.
Councilmembers Tina Conde, and Curtis Nielson, both reelected, and newly elected Max White, took the council oath of office on Monday.
Following the installation ceremony, the council unanimously voted to appoint Mike Pineda as vice mayor, replacing former Vice Mayor Veronica Malone, who remains on the council.
The vice mayor position is a two-year term, and members of the council select an individual from among themselves to fill the seat.
Pineda has served on Avondale City Council since 2017. He has been involved in the community for many years, previously serving on the Littleton Elementary School District governing board in the capacity of member, vice president and president during his tenure. He has also served as a coach for youth sports.
Currently, Pineda serves on the Maricopa Association of Governments Economic Development Council, Westmarc Board of Directors, the Avondale Council Subcommittee for Boards & Commissions, and the Estrella Mountain Community College Business Advisory Board.
Pineda is the business program director at Estrella Mountain Community College and is a residential faculty member. He is a lifelong West Valley resident, calling Avondale home since 2001. He and his wife, Olivia, are proud parents of four children.
