INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
A teen is in custody after police say he fired a gun early Thursday morning on the Tempe campus of Arizona State University.
ASU police received a report at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, regarding a person with a gun near the on-campus residences at the intersection of McAllister and Lemon.
Officers responded, and community members in the area were told to shelter in place, according to a release from ASU police.
“As officers arrived, the suspect fired multiple shots before fleeing, but was quickly apprehended,” the release stated, adding no injuries have been reported.
The suspect, a 17-year-old who is not affiliated with ASU, is in custody, and a gun has been recovered, police said.
The shelter-in-place order has been lifted.
ASU police ask anyone with information to contact the department.
“We want to thank members of the community for calling in the incident right away and officers from the ASU and Tempe Police departments for their quick action,” the release stated.
