Bruno the French bulldog is back home in California after Arizona state troopers discovered him in a car during a traffic stop earlier this month.

A Department of Public Safety trooper stopped the driver of a car for a moving violation on Sept. 7 on eastbound Interstate 10 in San Simon, authorities said Saturday.

A license plate check revealed the vehicle was being sought by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office in California in connection to a felony theft investigation in San Lorenzo, CA.

Both the male driver and female passenger of the vehicle were detained, and troopers learned the passenger was “the subject of an active warrant for grand theft of a dog in Alameda County, CA,” according to a DPS release.

Troopers found a French bulldog in the vehicle, which matched the description of the stolen dog, Bruno.

The female passenger, 22-year-old Saveya Marbury of Lewisville, Texas, was arrested and booked into the Cochise County Jail on the outstanding warrant.

Troopers transported Bruno to Willcox Animal Control to be cared for until he could be reunited with his family.

A police detective and a firefighter from Willcox then helped get Bruno to Tucson, where he was given to Alameda County Sheriff’s Office detectives before being returned to his family.

The Arizona Department of Transportation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and New Mexico State Police assisted troopers at the scene.
