An Arizona trooper on Friday uncovered more than 230 pounds of fentanyl pills and cocaine that were being smuggled from Mexico to Phoenix, Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said.
The trooper who is with the DPS Drug Enforcement and Investigations Bureau stopped a 2015 Honda Accord on northbound Interstate 19 near Amado, Arizona, authorities said.
A search of the vehicle turned up approximately 229.8 pounds of fentanyl pills - more than 1 million - and 9.65 pounds of cocaine hidden in the car, according to DPS officials who said they were being smuggled from Sonora, Mexico, to Phoenix.
Fernando Alfonso-Fernandez, 27, was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail on charges including possession, transportation and sale of narcotic drugs for sale.
