Arizona trooper injured in West Valley crash, truck driver arrested

Posted

An Arizona trooper suffered possible head injuries Wesdnesday night when his parked patrol vehicle was struck by a truck along westbound Interstate 10 in Buckeye, authorities said.

The collision occurred about 7:30 p.m. April 2, and impairment is suspected on the part of the driver of a Dodge Ram 3500 truck that was towing a trailer with three vehicles on board, according to a release from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The trooper was finishing paperwork from a non-injury collision report he had just taken and was parked about 20 feet off the highway on the dirt shoulder, the release stated.

The truck “traveled off right and off the highway and collided with the trooper’s vehicle at a significant speed. As a result of the collision, the trooper’s vehicle was pushed further off right approximately 60 feet.”

The trooper was taken to a hospital with possible head injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was not injured. He has been arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol and was being processed for DUI and related felony charges, DPS officials said.
