The Arizona House of Representatives on Wednesday night passed a bill to fund services for Arizonans with disabilities.
Gov. Katie Hobbs had told lawmakers last week she would veto any new bills they send to her until she was sent a measure with $122 million needed to fund the services through June 30, the end of the fiscal year. Without the dollars, the cash would have run out at the end of the month.
“After months of confusion and uncertainty for countless families, tonight we took an important first step towards delivering critical funding to continue vital services for Arizonans with Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities,” Hobbs stated in a release following the 48-11 vote.
“I am grateful to see House members on both sides of the aisle come together to advance common sense proposals.”
The money will fund the Division of Developmental Disabilities, which helps 60,000 Arizonans each.
The Senate is expected to pass the measure.
