Arizona gets $380M in opioid settlements
Posted
Independent Newsmedia
Arizona will receive $380 million in combined settlements for national opioid litigation against two drug makers and two pharmacies.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes annouced the settlements with pharmaceutical companies Teva and Allergan and pharmacies Walgreens and CVS, with money expected to be coming into the state by the end of the year.
"These agreements mark a significant step forward in Arizona's efforts to combat the devastating effects of the opioid crisis on individuals, families, and communities across our state," said Mayes in statment. "While no amount of money can fully make up for the disastrous impact opioids have had on Arizonans, these dollars will play a crucial role in helping communities meet the needs of those suffering from this crisis.”
Arizona settlement amounts are:
Teva: $92.9 million
Allergan: $51.2 million
Walgreens: 123.3 million
CVS: $113.3 million
The money will come into the state over 15 years, with $213 million going to local governments and $167 million set for state efforts. The money will be used for programs that battle opioid-related issues in the communities and around the state.
The settlement is the result of lawsuits filed around the country in the wake of the opioid epidemic that has resulted in $50 billion in settlements. Arizona has received $1.1 billion of that.
