State health officials have extended this week's ozone high-pollution advisory into Wednesday, and the National Weather Service forecasts a top temperature of 110 degrees.
NWS officials have put the Valley under an Excessive Heat Warning from Wednesday through Friday, June 5-7, saying temperatures could top out at 114 degrees at some point during that period.
Individuals without effective cooling and adequate hydration are at high risk for heat stress or illnesses, officials said.
The state's pollution advisory recommendations include:
- Drive less, carpool, use public transit, or telecommute.
- Fuel vehicles after dark or during cooler evening hours.
- Reduce wait time in long drive-thru lines.
- Avoid using leaf blowers. Use a rake or broom to keep debris out of the road and away from storm drains, ditches and streams.
- Conserve electricity.
- Outdoor fire pits and similar outdoor fires are prohibited in Maricopa County. This includes individuals and businesses with permits for open burning.
- Employees and contractors of government entities are prohibited from operating leaf blowers. Residents are encouraged to avoid leaf blowing.
- Off-highway vehicles are prohibited from being used.
