Arizona DPS receives $440K grant for traffic enforcement

Arizona’s Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has granted $440,000 to the Arizona Department of Public Safety to support its effort to reduce fatal and serious crashes by using enhanced enforcement and targeted traffic safety initiatives.

In addition to active enforcement efforts, GOHS funding will supplement Drug Recognition Expert training to educate law enforcement officers statewide in the detection and investigation of impaired drivers, according to an AZDPS release.

GOHS allocated grant funding in support of the following initiatives:

  • $35,000 for occupant protection enforcement.
  • $120,000 for DUI enforcement.
  • $40,000 for street racing enforcement.
  • $150,000 for Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.
  • $35,000 for distracted driving enforcement.
  • $20,000 for DRE training.
  • $40,000 for collision investigation.
