Arizona Democrats react to Biden dropping out of presidential race

Arizona Democrats reacted swiftly to the announcement Sunday that President Joe Biden was withdrawing from the presidential race.

The move, which some in the state's congressional delegation had pushed for, came amid questions about his age and ability to governing following last month's debate.

Rep. Ruben Gallego, who is running for the open Senate seat in Arizona, recognized Biden's accomplishments as president in a statement on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, and said the state and nation are at a crossroads.

Rep. Greg Stanton, who represents a district covering central Phoenix and parts of the East Valley, called Biden "one of the most effective chief executives of the modern era."

Gov. Katie Hobbs called Biden the "embodiment of a public servant" and appreciated the work his administration had done with the state.
