The Apache Junction Prospectors (7-5) faced the Cortez Colts (3-13) on April 17. The Prospectors were looking to add onto their win total for a final playoff push to end the season.

The Prospectors’ bats started out hot and never extinguished as they notched 10 runs in the first inning. After a four-run second inning, a five-run third inning, and another five-run fourth inning the Prospectors walked away with their eighth win of the year.

A factor to success during the game was AJ’s ability to stay patient at the plate and draw walks, as they notched 16 walks in four innings. Shaunna Harper had a great game at the plate, drawing two walks, knocking a two-RBI double and a three-RBI triple while also throwing a complete four innings on the mound and a total of nine strikeouts.

Editor’s note: Isaac Robertson is an intern who currently covers sports writing for Apache Junction Unified School District. He plans to attend Arizona State University with a major in sports journalism.
