Apache Junction Prospectors lose to Arizona College Prep Knights

The Prospectors (0-5) hosted their first home game of the season against the Arizona College Prep Knights (6-2). Multiple game cancellations due to poor weather conditions halted the Prospectors’ home debut for an extra week.

While the scoreboard of this game shows a blowout — the Knights won, 12-5 — the game could have been much closer if it were not for the fielding mistakes from the Prospectors. Seven fielding errors and a catcher’s interference provided plenty of opportunities for the Knights to score throughout the game. The Prospectors were able to clean up after the third inning, as they held the Knights scoreless for the remainder of the game. Offensive bats did not come alive until the fifth inning however, as the Prospectors scored too little too late.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, bases were loaded and a passed ball scored a run to cut the lead down to 12-5. However, with two runners in scoring position and no outs, the Prospectors were unable to drive in any more runs. This was not the only time the Prospectors were unable to capitalize, as in the second inning Apache Junction had a bases-loaded opportunity with only one out in the inning, but a strikeout and pop out followed and they were unable to push any runs across.

Infielder Cody Clark never gave up on the game, as he went 2-3 with two singles, an RBI and a stolen base.
