Apache Junction native helps support Super Bowl flyover

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – During the 2023 Super Bowl National Anthem performance three Navy tactical squadrons will conduct a unified flyover. Petty Officer 1st Class Ronald Gorman, a native of Apache Junction, is one of the sailors who maintains the aircraft supporting the flyover.

The flyover formation includes two F/A-18F Super Hornets from “Flying Eagles” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 122, a F-35C Lightning II from the “Warhawks” of (VFA) 97, and a EA-18G Growler from “Vikings” Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129.

Skills and values similar to those found in Apache Junction are important to succeed in the military.

“Growing up I learned doing the right thing, having integrity and taking pride in your work are all defining characteristics,” said Gorman. “These skills will build a solid foundation for others to follow you and will establish you as a leader.”

Gorman joined the Navy eight years ago. Today, Gorman serves as an aviation machinist’s mate assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 97.

“My dad was in the Army, and that is what inspired me to join the Navy,” said Gorman. “It was also getting the opportunities to experience once in a lifetime events and travel the world.”

According to Navy officials, naval aviation is the best in the world because of its ability to harness the entire ocean as a runway.

As Gorman continues to train and perform missions, there’s a great deal of pride serving in the United States Navy.

“Everything I’ve learned in my naval career, has been attributed in some way by all my friends and family,” added Gorman. “I sincerely would not be where I am at without their support.”
