SUN CITY - Amy Lydia Christoferson, also of Jefferson City, Mo., died Feb. 13, 2017, in Albuquerque, N.M. Amy was born May 30, 1919 in Faribault, Minn., to William and Lydia Koopmans. Amy attended elementary school in Cannon City, Minn., and later graduated high school in Faribault, Minn., in 1937. She went on to graduate from St. Lucas School of Nursing and received her RN in 1941. Additionally, she attended University of Minnesota for two years, receiving an A.A. She was married on Apr. 8, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo., to Dr. Joseph S. Summers, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2001. Amy was again married on Mar. 6, 2003, to Robert D. Christoferson, who survives her and resides in their Sun City home. Amy worked with the West School PTA in Jefferson City, Mo., for many years, holding various offices. She worked with the JC Band Boosters, helping to organize, raise funds, and chaperone trips to various performances throughout the Midwest. She helped organize and chaperone the 150-member JC Band for its five-car train trip to Washington, D.C., in January 1960 for the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. Amy was a member of the Women's Missouri Golf Team and for many years played in its tournaments. She was also Chairperson of the Missouri State Golf Tournament when it was held in Jefferson City in 1972 and was also a charter member of the Missouri Senior Women's Golf Association, organized in 1969. Amy had a home in Sun City too, serving as a member of All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church, where she was a Stevens Minister as well as active in the Bridge Marathon group. She enjoyed memberships in the Sun City RV Club, Caravan Club, Willow Creek Women's Golf Association, and often played the Sun City Octogenarian Tournament, where she was champion and runner-up several times. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elaine Marion Koopmans and Dorothy L. Mistretta, of Austin, Minn.; and lastly her brother, Walt W. Koopmans, of Faribault, Minn. and Sun City.Amy is survived by her four children, her daughters, Dorothy L. Dallmeyer, of Jefferson City, Mo., and Amy K.Wadum, of Bastrop, Texas, and her sons, Dr. William K. Summers, of Albuquerque, N.M. and Joseph S. Summers, of Illinois; also by her brother, Roger Koopmans, of Faribault, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorial services for Amy Christoferson will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Grace Episcopal Church in Jefferson City, Mo., at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Harvel Sanders officiating.
