6 injured during police traffic stop in Old Town Scottsdale

Posted

A traffic stop in Old Town Scottsdale on Saturday night led to six people being injured, including four police officers, authorities said.

The incident happened about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in front of El Hefe on North Saddlebag Trail. The driver was heading north on Saddlebag Trail despite posted wrong-way signs, police said.

Officers stopped the vehicle, but the front-seat passenger tried to get out  against police orders.

Two other officers arrived after backup was requested, police said.

The driver, according to police, refused to shut off the vehicle after multiple requests.

An officer attempted to remove the driver and turn off the ignition. The driver resisted, police said, and he drove off.

One officer had his hand caught in the car door, and three others were hit as the vehicle drove away.  Two pedestrians also were struck as it drove off.

Police said no one was seriously injured.

“This area did have pedestrian traffic and other people walking around going to the different bars and nightclubs in the area,” police said in a release.

Police said they know who the driver is and are checking on the passenger’s identity as they continue an investigation.
