Arizona troopers last week arrested two Phoenix men who state authorities said were smuggling drugs to Denver.

The arrests of the driver, Jose Espinoza-Gil, 32, and passenger, Luciano Zamudio, 42, occurred following a traffic stop Jan. 18 along northbound Interstate 17 near Cordes Junction, Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said in a release.

According to DPS, “indicators of criminal activity were observed during the stop, and a drug detection canine alerted to the vehicle,” a Jeep SUV.

During a search, troopers said they found about 36 pounds of fentanyl pills and 21.5 pounds of methamphetamine.

The suspects were booked into the Yavapai County Jail on charges including possession, transportation, and sale of narcotic drugs and dangerous drugs.
