17th annual toy, food drive returns to Phoenix

Josh Carmona, aka “Crisco Kidd,” has partnered with Radio Hall of Famer Jammin’ Jimmy Olson for the 17th Annual Ton of Toys and Food Drive and Distribution.

Their mission is to support vulnerable groups facing food insecurity as well as spreading joy for Christmas and other celebrated holidays with a goal of collecting at least 10,000 pounds of non-perishable food, 2,000 pounds of toys, and 200 bikes.

Donors can purchase toys and food at Walmart from a predetermined wishlist. Donors can also donate virtually by purchasing online and having it “delivered” to the store or picking the “pick-up at store” option.

Donations will go through the Walmart Supercenter, located at 5250 W. Indian School Road, in Phoenix. The drive for toys and food will go:

  • 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14
  • 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15
  • 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16
  • 8-10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17 (stationary distribution)

The drive will benefit UMOM New Day Centers, which serves nearly 700 individuals experiencing homelessness – 155 families and 130 single women, and offers more than 550 units of affordable housing across the Valley; and the Who I Am Foundation and Mindful Wellness, which helps more than 150 underprivileged families and 300 children throughout the Valley. St. Mary’s Food Bank has signed on to be the official food beneficiary for the event.

Registration is open to all families in need. Crisco and Jimmy are looking for volunteers for all four days to assist with organizing, boxing, set up and take down, traffic control, gift wrapping, and distribution.

One in seven children, one in 10 seniors, and one in four disabled veterans are battling food deprivation in the Valley at any given time, according to a press release.
