Valley experts ‘disappointed’ in RFK remarks on autism

Valley experts within the autism community expressed a range of reactions — from disappointment to frustration — with comments made Wednesday by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Those reactions were mirrored nationally after Kennedy made a number of statements about autism and people on the spectrum during a press conference, which some local experts said they simply don’t agree with or which aren’t rooted in science.

For instance, Kennedy called autism a “disease” and “an epidemic,” caused by “an environmental toxin.”
