The experience Scottsdale schools need

OPINION — I am Jennifer Johnson,  a candidate for the SUSD Governing Board. As a native Arizonan, educator, parent and community member, I will bring proven leadership to the SUSD governing board. My focus is on strengthening student achievement, building strong career readiness, and fostering meaningful engagement among parents, community and schools. I care about our students. I believe you do as well.

Through my career as a public-school teacher, principal and district superintendent, I gained the knowledge, skills and experience needed to understand how successful districts excel. The school and district that I led consistently earned “A” letter grades and received national recognition. As a deputy superintendent for the Arizona Department of Education, I guided the implementation of programs that supported districts across Arizona. I served as an assistant vice president at Grand Canyon University, where I provided professional development, resources and student experiences that promoted high levels of student achievement.

High achievement for all students requires strong systems, accountability and districtwide policies alongside a governing board that can collaborate, analyze and set meaningful goals for students and educators. My experience lets me contribute to the board's effectiveness from day one. I've done this work before, and I want to bring that expertise to SUSD.
