Royse Contemporary will present Color + Abstraction, featuring a group exhibition examining color and abstraction within artwork, through July 23, at 7077 E. Main Street in Scottsdale.
The Color + Abstraction exhibition opens to the public from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, with a special artist reception for guests to have an opportunity to meet the artists, enjoy refreshments and treats, according to a press release.
"Each artist approaches their work in an original way, and we are delighted to bring this dynamic collection of work to Royse Contemporary," said Nicole Royse, curator, in the release.
Likewise, Royse has assembled a collection of work by artists working in an array of mediums including painting, drawing, photography, and mixed media. This exhibition showcases the work of Arizona artists including:
Cherie Buck-Hutchison
Gerry Groeber
Joe Ray
Daniel Shepherd
Marilyn Szabo
Casey Wakefield
Color and abstraction allows artists to freely express themselves, explore and share their vision while connecting with viewers, said the release, describing artists' use of abstraction as a form of expression as well as “independence from artistic constraints as they explore their subject and medium.”
While the inclusion or omission of emphasizing color within artwork is important, the release added there is often an emotional connection and response while viewing color, the release added.
Color + Abstraction will be on display at Royse Contemporary during limited summer hours when open 6-9 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and/or by appointment.
