Vanessa Ayala, a local mother who lost her 17-year-old son, a student at Desert Mountain High School, to opioids will speak at an event at New Covenant Lutheran Church, 15152 Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd., at 5:30 p.m. on May 7.
Stephanie Siete, an educator with over 25 years of experience in prevention and has been recognized by the FBI, will also lead a discussion on the topic, according to a press release.
The topics discussed will include the opioid crisis; the vaping epidemic; drug trends, symptoms and facts and how smart phones and social media impact the developing brain.
There will also be informational vendors and Narcan available.
The event is open to the public.
