Phoenix Wounded Vets Run takes off next month in Scottsdale

Posted

Community members can join together, ride and show support for local wounded veterans at the 10th annual Phoenix Wounded Vets Run Saturday, March 9.

The ride starts at Harley Davidson of Scottsdale, 15656 N. Hayden Road, and ends at the Roadhouse in Cave Creek, 6900 E. Cave Creek Road.

The Phoenix Wounded Vets Run is hosted by They Fought We Ride, a nonprofit raising money to support local combat veterans in Arizona. Coming up on the 10th year anniversary, the Wounded Vets Run supports those who have sacrificed their bodies and minds for America.

Visit theyfoughtweridenational.com for information.

This event is sponsored in part by Harley Davidson of Scottsdale, Leak Science, Inked Brothers, Cutter Aviation, Matsock & Associate, Cigna and other local businesses.

This year’s honoree is Chris Bain a recon scout with Chemical Identifier. Bain was severely wounded on April 8, 2004, while setting up a raid on the village of Al-Taji, by an ambush triggered by their Iraqi interpreter.

Bain rushed his men to a safety shelter, as they were then under protection. Bain ran back to his Humvee and dove under it as mortar fire was splashing all around him. Bain was hit with three mortars and shot two times and bled out and died on the battlefield. He was revived and woke up 14 days later in the Walter Reed Medical Center.

Refusing to accept the label of hero, he refocused his life to serve veterans and works at The Phoenix VA as a contract specialist.

Pre-registration sign up is available at theyfoughtweridenational.com/events. Cost is $25 per rider and $40 for couple. Registration starts at 9 a.m., which includes breakfast and the National Anthem, with kickstands up at noon.

Those who don't ride but want to be a part of this event can meet at the Harley Davidson of Scottsdale or at the Roadhouse for raffles and more.
