New CIO, police chief join Maricopa Community Colleges

Two new executives recently started their jobs at the Maricopa County Community College District, taking positions as chief information officer and chief of police.

Jess Evans is the new CIO, and Blair L. Barfuss is police chief, according to an MCCCD release.

Most recently, Evans served as the vice president of strategic services for Higher Digital.

She has also had executive positions as CIO at Vanderbilt University, COO for information technology and deputy CIO at Arizona State University and IT executive director at Case Western Reserve University.

With more than two decades of experience in law enforcement leadership, Barfuss previously served as chief of police at Utah Tech University, Utah State University and Riverton City.

A graduate of the FBI National Academy, he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia University and a master’s degree in human resources with an emphasis on organizational management from Utah State University.
