Caputi: Together we can move Scottsdale forward in a positive, smart manner

I’m proud to qualify for the 2020 Scottsdale City Council race. I did this one voter at a time, with only hard-working volunteers.

Thank you to all the voters who took time to talk to me, and for sharing what’s important to you. Every day I am learning from all of you. I’m grateful for all the community and family support I’ve received and look forward to a creative, healthy campaign ahead.

The city is now facing unique challenges that demand new ideas and adaptive leadership. Many people are anxious and scared, experiencing serious financial hardship and being forced to hit the “pause” button. I’m right there with you, with kids home from school, and my business facing new hurdles every day.

I’m an optimist, and I’ve built my business on pivoting to challenges. I’m feeling resilient and thinking about how best to move forward. Our city budget must shrink this year and we have some hard choices for the foreseeable future, but I will always prioritize our first responders. That’s a firm commitment from me; public health and safety first. We will come out of this stronger as a city and better prepared for the future.

Our council must provide modern answers to new problems. We need creative leaders with up-to-date experience. I won’t accept what we can’t do! We will have opportunities here to re-engineer. More than anything, we’ve learned how quickly things can change if they must. I’m looking for solutions that keep Scottsdale an amazing place to live and work and raise our families. We will pick ourselves up one good, kind, smart decision at a time.

Moving forward isn’t lowering our standards; it’s thinking strategically about economic development, so that we are not caught under-prepared at the next crisis. Let’s provide a quality education system from preschool to higher ed that collaborates with local employers, so our residents can find quality jobs from hire to retire. Let’s continue building a diverse economy with strong high tech and biomed industries working to keep our residents safe and prosperous.

Let’s make sure we have jobs here in Scottsdale that produce economic security. We have open spaces, outdoor activities and beautiful weather --- key differentiators that will bring the tourists back. Scottsdale’s unique brand will become even more valuable.

I’ve spent the last 20 years providing light and power all over Arizona as the owner of an electrical materials supply firm, adapting my company to new technologies and obstacles. As a positive, experienced leader with a vision to move Scottsdale forward, I will help light up the way!
