Trans-Siberian Orchestra will bring its 30th anniversary winter tour to Phoenix for two performances Dec. 6 at Mortgage Matchup Center. The progressive-rock holiday institution will perform at 3 and 7:30 p.m., with a reimagined production of “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve” followed by a second set of TSO music.
“The Ghosts of Christmas Eve,” based on TSO’s television special and multi-platinum DVD, follows a runaway who takes shelter in an abandoned vaudeville theater on Christmas Eve. The production incorporates music including “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24,” “Christmas Canon,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Mad Russian Christmas” and “Wizards in Winter,” accompanied by the elaborate lighting, lasers, pyrotechnics and special effects that have become a hallmark of the group’s tours.
“Thirty years in, we never take a single person in that audience for granted,” TSO music director and guitarist Al Pitrelli shared in a press release. “We reimagine the show, we rebuild it, we make it bigger than last year so people come back again.”
