“Magic of Motown” will bring more than two hours of Motown music to the Herberger Theater Center in downtown Phoenix at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. The all-ages production is presented by Moxie Events and will be performed on the theater’s Center Stage.
The show features music associated with The Temptations, The Jackson 5, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson. Performers recreate the Motown sound through vocals, choreography and period-inspired costuming. The performance runs two hours, including an intermission.
The Herberger Theater Center has been part of downtown Phoenix’s performing arts scene since 1989. Conceived as a nonprofit performing-arts center and arts incubator, it grew out of downtown revitalization efforts in the late 1980s, with philanthropists Katherine “Kax” and Bob Herberger helping establish the venue. The center opened July 19, 1989, and today hosts resident companies, touring productions, cultural events and arts education programs.
