Grandson charged with murder of grandfather in north Phoenix

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder of his grandfather in an apartment Wednesday in north Phoenix, according to a Phoenix Police news release on Friday.

According to the release, at approximately 6:41 p.m. on Sept. 9, Phoenix Police officers received a call for unknown trouble at an apartment near North 10th Street and East Devonshire Avenue.

When officers arrived, they learned that the victim’s daughter came to check on her father, later identified as 75-year-old Fred Celaya, after not being able to contact him for several days, when she found him unresponsive.
