WeRIDE microtransit expands in Peoria

Posted

Riders of WeRIDE micortransit in Peoria now have more options.

The pilot program has expanded its reach  to Thunderbird Road between 75th and 83rd avenues.

Users are also able to travel into Surprise because the WeRIDE Peoria and WeRIDE Surprise zones connect at the Arizona DES Office and Salvation Army in Surprise.

Launched in Peoria in January, WeRIDE offers affordable, on-demand ride-sharing.

Adult fare is $2 per ride, and seniors over 60, veterans, disabled persons and students pay $1 per ride. Children age 5 and younger ride free with a fare-paying passenger 16 years old or older.

City officials say the app-based service offers trips to and from fixed points within a 10-minute walk to many central Peoria neighborhoods with stops at shopping centers, recreation facilities, businesses, and community spaces. Most neighborhood stops can be found at a community neighborhood mailbox or a very short walk from a resident’s home.

Fares can be paid using the app with a credit or debit card or paid to the driver with exact cash, as no change can be given by the drivers.

The $500,000 pilot program started in January, but an end date has not been set.
