Peoria resident selected as Desert Southwest regional manager

Peoria resident Jack Murray has been named Western Area Power Administration’s senior vice president and Desert Southwest regional manager.
His promotion is effective June 19.
“It is truly an honor to be selected for this position, and I’m grateful for the opportunity,” Murray said. “I’m a staunch believer in WAPA’s mission, which is successfully delivered every day by our dedicated and service-minded employees. I look forward to continuing to partner with our customers to provide value to them and the communities they serve.”
As the DSW manager located in Phoenix, Murray will lead more than 220 federal employees and 130 contractors in marketing and delivering renewable, reliable and cost-based federal hydroelectric power and related services to nearly 70 municipalities, electric cooperatives, federal and state agencies, irrigation districts and Native American tribes in the southwestern U.S. The power marketed by DSW is generated at Bureau of Reclamation dams including Hoover, Parker and Davis along the Colorado River. DSW operates more than 40 substations and 3,100 miles of extra-high voltage transmission lines.
“Jack’s extensive WAPA-wide and DSW experience, coupled with his strength in building and maintaining productive and positive relationships, will serve WAPA and customers very well in this time of rapid industry transformation,” said WAPA Administrator and CEO Tracey A. LeBeau. “He consistently demonstrates his in-depth institutional knowledge, which informs a customer service focus that is always inclusive and mission-based. WAPA as a whole will benefit from his executive management and collaborative leadership style.”
Murray has more than 20 years of energy industry experience, specifically at WAPA’s DSW region. He joined WAPA in 1999 as a financial analyst in DSW. Murray cultivated his knowledge and experience and moved up the ranks to rates manager, vice president of Power Marketing and VP of Transmission System Asset Management. Between 2020 and 2022, he served as acting senior vice president and regional manager for both Rocky Mountain and DSW. Before joining WAPA, Murray served several years in the banking industry and the Small Business Administration in Seattle, Washington.
Western Area Power Administration annually markets and transmits more than 28,000 gigawatt-hours of clean, renewable power from 57 federal hydroelectric powerplants owned and operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and International Boundary and Water Commission in 15 western and central states.
