Peoria ranked #10 most popular boating city in U.S.

Getmyboat published its annual ranking of the most popular boating destinations in America, and Peoria earned a place among the Top 10.

Lake Pleasant, of course, is the prime boating destination in the Valley and officially one of the most desirable in the country. The scenic water reservoir is part of the Central Arizona Project waterway system, bringing water from the Lower Colorado River into Central and southern Arizona.

While Peoria checked in at #10, the only other Arizona city on the list is Lake Havasu City, which the report ranks at #16.

Miami is tops in the U.S. for boating, according to the report, followed by a top five of Chicago, San Diego, Austin and Marina Del Rey.

GetMyBoat is the largest boat rental and charter marketplace globally, with more than 150,000 listings in 184 countries covering 9,300 destinations.

The company shared its methodology for the study.

“GetMyBoat analyzed over 100,000 boat rentals in the United States over the past year on the GetMyBoat platform,” the report cites. “Data was curated to exclude outlier hourly rates and locations with insignificant sample size, while rentals were categorized into the significant categories to be evaluated in this report. Rentals outside of the report categories are labeled as ‘Other.’”

Lake Pleasant this month will also offer its final “Monday Clean-Up Crew” of the season. The effort, which started in April, asks residents who are available on any Monday to help pick up litter along the shoreline.

The last Clean-Up Crew until next spring goes from 6 to 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30.

Volunteers should park in the Castle Hot Springs dirt lot near the entry station, which is located at 41835 N. Castle Hot Springs Road, in Morristown.
