We may all lose just a little bit of the spring in our step as we age, but slowing down does not mean we need to give up our independence. Taking time to work on mobility and balance is a key part of the strategy for aging well and moving confidently into the future.
As a physical therapist, my focus is on clients who have suffered injuries from falls or who are in recovery from surgeries. Physical therapists also help treat individuals who can no longer leave their home safely without assistance.
Even though we play a crucial role in helping individuals regain mobility and function after injuries, our work extends far beyond those areas. The practice of physical therapy also includes working with clients to promote overall well-being, prevent injuries and enhance performance of patients, especially those who struggle with activities of daily living.
