Valley women veterans represented through local theater production
Cast made up of Peoria Unified students, teachers
Posted
A local theater production is bringing Valley women veterans together.
Directed by Ironwood High School Theater director, Lyman Akers, “A Piece of My Heart” tells a story of hardship that has moved several community members to share their stories of service and sacrifice.
Based on the novel by Shirley Lauro, “A Piece of My Heart” is about six courageous women stationed in Vietnam.
Presented by the Casa Veterans Ministry in conjunction with Peoria Unified School District Faculty/Alumni Showcase, the play has moved so many that both staff and students have chosen to star in its production. The play includes a cast of student and teacher actors from Raymond S. Kellis, Centennial and Ironwood high schools.
Following its final performance, there will be a discussion panel titled “We Were There Too” featuring five valley women veterans covering their service experiences in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The panel hopes to give women veterans a voice and highlight the impact that this play has had on the Valley.
