Carefree resident: Council must preserve open space

OPINION — I am writing in response to the April 7, 2026, Carefree Town Council meeting —a meeting that left me deeply disappointed.

With the exception of Diane Roth, the council showed a troubling lack of leadership in preserving the 48 acres of open space — something residents have overwhelmingly identified as a top priority. Instead, the issue appears stalled, raising concerns that development is being allowed to move forward.

No one is asking the town for money. Carefree Park has simply asked for representation, collaboration and public support. Yet the council continues to deflect with “we don’t have the money,” rather than exploring meaningful, non-financial ways to help.
