It appears Duff and Glover will be in the Nov. 8 general election for the council seat in District 4 as no one received enough votes in the primary election to win outright.
“While we’ll be watching the final counts closely, it’s clear that we still have more work ahead of us. Close elections are not a new thing for me and I’m ready to earn every last vote to win in November,” Duff said.
Ross said he will continue to advocate for the city of Mesa.
“I would like the residents of Mesa to know that I am incredibly grateful for their willingness to speak to me about the issues they are facing. Although I will not be continuing to the general election, I will continue to advocate for my community. I will also personally voice the concerns I heard from my neighbors to the mayor and city council,” he said.
The unofficial results show Somers with more than 50% of the votes and winning the council seat in District 6.
“Thank you District 6. With most of the ballots counted, I am pleased to say that we are in the lead with more than 58% of the vote. I am humbled by the overwhelming support and trust the voters of District 6 have placed in me. I am proud of my track record of proven leadership, and I am deeply honored to return to the Mesa City Council at this critical time to fully realize the vision we created for southeast Mesa more than a decade ago,” he said.
“Thank you to my wife and family for all their support throughout the campaign. Thank you also to United Mesa Firefighters, Mesa Police Association, Mesa Chamber of Commerce, Councilmember Kevin Thompson and the countless community leaders who endorsed my campaign and lent their name in support. Thank you to everyone who has worked on, donated to and supported my campaign – especially the large number of fire fighters, business owners and residents who worked so hard to help me succeed,” Somers said.
He thanked Trendler for running a positive campaign.
“I also want to take a moment to commend my opponent on her efforts. It’s not easy to run for office and I appreciate that her campaign remained positive. I am passionate about the city of Mesa and I am excited to get back to work to continue to build a stronger city,” Somers said.
Trendler thanked residents of District 6 who shared perspectives with her and she congratulated Somers in winning the election.
“While this election did not turn out as I had hoped, I am proud of the authentic, grassroots campaign we ran. From gathering signatures at grocery stores to door knocking to standing at the polls and everything in between, I am grateful for the residents of District 6 who shared their perspectives with me. I learned so much from each of you,” she said. “As a small business and community leader I will continue working to bring people together to solve problems and make our city a better place for all. Congratulations to Scott Somers on your win and I look forward to seeing what you accomplish for our district.”
