Hearings beginning soon for SRP application to power Intel expansion

Salt River Project submitted an application with the Arizona Corporation Commission to bring reliable power to Intel’s expansion in Chandler and hearings on the matter are set to begin soon.

The High-Tech Interconnection project is required to bring power to the recently- announced $20 billion expansion. It is reported to be the largest private investment in Arizona history and will be a major economic boost for Chandler, the Valley and the state, and provide thousands of high-paying jobs, according to a news release from SRP.

The expansion will require SRP, a public power utility, to build a new 230-kV substation on Intel’s campus as well as new transmission lines connecting the campus to the two existing substations. SRP is seeking a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility to continue the project.
