Roosevelt Street alignment removal sought in Apache Junction

Posted

Extinguishing the federally patented easement of the Roosevelt Street alignment from Wickiup Road to Chaparral Road will be considered during a June meeting of the Apache Junction City Council.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, in the council chambers, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.

It is called an alignment as it is not a formal street and not a paved roadway, Project Engineer Raquel Schatz said during a May 18 council work session.

“It has not been used as a street — just simply point A to point B,” she said.

The owner of 238 N. Chaparral Road filed an application for the extinguishment and is seeking it for future development, which they will obtain permits for through the city, Schatz wrote in a memo to council.

“In addition, the (federally patented easement) does not provide access to any parcels which would be landlocked in the event of extinguishment. Area transportation would not be adversely affected by an extinguishment,” she wrote.
