Cancer Support Community Arizona is expanding its programs to HonorHealth Four Peaks Medical Center in Mesa, bringing cancer support and connection to more individuals and families across the East Valley.
Beginning Aug. 25, CSCAZ will offer a series of in-person and virtual support groups at the medical center, 1301 S. Crismon Road in Mesa. The expansion provides greater access to emotional and social support for East Valley individuals and families navigating a cancer diagnosis, according to a release.
The initial launch includes:
People Living with Cancer Support Group: A professionally facilitated support group for individuals with a current or recent cancer diagnosis. The group provides a compassionate space to connect with others, share experiences, receive emotional support and build community while navigating the challenges of cancer.
Cookies & Community Youth and Teen Support Groups (Ages 6–12 and 13–17): Age-appropriate support groups for children and teens impacted by a parent or loved one’s cancer diagnosis. Through activities, creative expression and peer support, participants can develop coping skills, process emotions and build connections with others who understand their experience.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment between CSCAZ and HonorHealth to ensure individuals and families facing cancer have access to support, connection and community closer to home, the release states.
“A cancer diagnosis can touch every part of a person’s life and the lives of those who love them,” Kristen Genovese, CEO of Cancer Support Community Arizona, said in the release. “Through our partnership with HonorHealth Four Peaks Medical Center, more individuals and families across the East Valley will have access to connection, encouragement and support. Offering these programs at no cost helps ensure that everyone can receive support when they need it.”
Research shows that emotional and psychosocial support play a crucial role in helping individuals, families, caregivers and survivors cope with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. Through professionally facilitated support groups, participants can connect with others facing similar experiences, share concerns and gain tools for navigating treatment, survivorship and caregiving.
CSCAZ also provides support groups, educational workshops, healthy-lifestyle classes and social activities designed to support people impacted by cancer at every stage of the journey.
