Downtown Mesa is getting more housing, with an apartment complex local leaders say is a continuation of efforts to redevelop the city’s central core.
While residents have been moving in for months, the new 335-unit apartment complex at 145 E Main Street recently completed all phases of construction. The apartment complex is now officially fully open.
The complex has a modern aesthetic that aims to pay tribute to Mesa artists. Units range from one-bed, one-bath options to three-bed, two-bath options and more. A pricier townhouse unit, which is a two-story, two-bed, three-bath unit with garage also is available.
Rent ranges from $1300 per month for the cheapest studio to the townhouse, which can be rented for about $2,700 a month.
“The townhouse is a two-bed, two-bath, it gives you that additional space so you get the feel of a more traditional house but with the amenities of an apartment,” said Jamie Gerber, senior manager at The Opus Group. “We have 27 (townhome) units and each comes with a garage.”
The Opus Group handled design and construction of Melody on Main. P.B. Bell handles the property management, and the Downtown Mesa Association made sure the apartment was integrated into the downtown area.
Other amenities include a gym, multiple first-floor and second-floor lounges, a pool with a hot tub and shuffleboard, a dog bathing area, and more. The complex is located next to a light rail stop and is close to a lot of Mesa retail and commerce.
“Melody on Main’s location is absolutely integral to the economics of downtown Mesa,” said Terry Madeksza from the Downtown Mesa Association. “We have hundreds of businesses, and in downtown Mesa, it’s unique because most of the businesses are locally owned. We have distilleries, breweries, doughnuts, and it’s not chains from around the country. These business are not only relying on visitors but on residents to support them. It’s key that people who are living here are able to walk a block or two to get to local businesses.”
Melody on Main is the latest example of a growing trend of Mesa becoming more of an attractive location for future residents and business owners. Justin Steltenpohl from P.B. Bell said Mesa is an ideal location for the complex.
“Mesa is a central location, you have to access to the 60, the 101, the 202. you have everything right there,” Steltenpohl said. “The light rail brings everything in, making the city a prime area for growth. I think the city has done a really nice job on capitalizing on it in a moderative way. They are very particular about who they bring in, and it always pays off.”
Melody on Main is currently accepting applicants. You can apply to be a resident, view information or sign up for a tour of the complex at https://www.melodyonmainapts.com/.
