Proposed changes to the city of Mesa’s historic preservation design guidelines and zoning ordinance should be approved by the Mesa City Council, the city’s planning and zoning board decided recently.
The board voted unanimously Sept. 9 on a consent agenda to approve the Aug. 26 meeting’s minutes and also recommend the council approve two items on historic preservation.
The proposed text amendments to the zoning ordinance consolidate related historic preservation provisions into a single historic preservation overlay chapter, reorganizing regulations and eliminating repetitive or outdated language, according to a written staff report with five authors: Development Services Director Nana Appiah, Planning Director Mary Kopaskie-Brown, Assistant Planning Director Rachel Phillips, Historic Preservation Officer Matthew Kriegl and City Archaeologist Meghan Eaton.
