Mesa school board votes to amend DES agreement on school-to-work program

Posted

The Mesa Public Schools Governing Board voted 7-0 to amend an intergovernmental agreement with the Arizona Department of Economic Security for the Transition from School to Work Program during its July 22 meeting.

The vote passed 5-0 with no discussion. The agreement helps the district assist students with disabilities transition into the workforce after school.

“The intergovernmental agreement with Arizona Department of Economic Security for the Transition from School to Work program aligns with IDEA Part B and Part C, federal mandates that require state educational and vocational agencies to coordinate services for student,” board documents stated. “The agreement establishes a formal collaboration between Mesa Public Schools and the Arizona Department of Economic Security to support students with disabilities transitioning from school into work or post secondary education.”

According to board documents, the amendment establishes a budget ceiling of $1.07 million for the program through June 30, 2026.

Mesa Unified School District — also known as Mesa Public Schools — is the largest public school district in Arizona and has six high schools, nine junior high schools, 55 elementary schools and 18 choice and success schools.
