A 25-year-old man has surrendered nearly one month after the shooting death of Tyler Davis at the Silver Creek Apartments in Mesa, police said Saturday.
Antolino Ballejos Jr, 25, surrendered to Mesa police officers and was booked into jail on a second-degree murder charge in the death of the 35-year-old victim.
Just after 7 p.m. April 9, Mesa police officers responded to shooting reports at the apartments, 124 N. 67th St.
They found a witness performing CPR on Davis, who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital where he died, according to a Mesa Police Department release.
“Investigators quickly identified the suspected shooter as (Ballejos Jr) based off witness accounts of what happened and video surveillance footage, but locating him seemed to be challenging,” the release stated.
“During a phone call with investigators, Ballejos Jr agreed to turn himself in on April 11 but never showed.”
On May 2, a family member of the suspect called police and reported that he wanted to surrender. He was taken into custody just after midnight on May 3 at the apartments.
