Mesa council votes to increase spending for libraries’ physical media

Posted

The Mesa City Council voted 6-0 to approve a $150,000 increase to a contract for city libraries’ physical media at its July 1 meeting.

Councilmember Francisco Heredia was absent.

The increase will take the contract from $150,000 to $300,000. The contract, according to council documents, facilitates the purchase of DVDs and Blu-ray.

“The Gateway Library is scheduled to open this fall. To support the one-time costs associated with establishing a comprehensive opening day collection, including books, audiobooks, DVDs, Blu-rays, and other library materials, a temporary increase in contract spending capacity is requested,” the council documents stated. “This adjustment does not impact the existing budget, which is already allocated and funded for this project.”

The contract is in its second of three years and is funded by the Library Services Department operating budget.
